I have far too many connections that lead back to musical theater. I first met Nancy through her son Alex, who is a good friend of mine from college. Alex and I met performing together at Brown in the musical Urinetown. I also first met Alex’s girlfriend Lacey while performing in another musical at Brown about NASA, the Moon, and aliens…#college. Though none of us are still pursing musical theater careers, we’ve managed to remain friends and often laugh about these performances. When Alex reached out to me about photographing his Mom’s wedding I was honored and excited to be a part of their day.
Nancy and Jack were married on a gorgeous spring day on the Upper East Side. I love the moments when New York feels like a small town, which was exactly how their wedding day felt. I met Nancy, Jack, and their families at Jack’s apartment and we took pictures in the backyard before walking a few blocks to Frere de Lys for the ceremony. We made a quick stop by Nancy’s dry cleaners (honoring their request to see Nancy in her dress) who were overjoyed to see Nancy looking so beautiful!
When we arrived at the restaurant it was filled with their family and friends ready to celebrate. The ceremony was personalized by two close friends officiating and the room was decorated with Mardi Gras beads, a tribute to their favorite place, New Orleans. Nancy and Jack looked fantastic and could not stop smiling at each other the entire day. When I left to head back home to Brooklyn my cheeks hurt from smiling so much. It was a privilage and joy to be a part of this intimate ceremony. Congratulations Nancy and Jack!
(The afternoon ended with cupcakes, designed by a friend of Jack’s Daughter, of a anatomically shaped heart, and an engagement ring. I love the heart, keeping it real.)
