Venice in April // Solo Travel

Back in April I took a 10 day trip to Italy.  It was my first time traveling abroad by myself, and also my first time visiting Italy.  My first stop was Venice.  After taking a train from Rome (where a British woman asked me why I didn’t have any friends to travel with, and warned me to trust no one…quite the solo traveler greeting) I arrived in Venice as the sun was setting.  I checked into my hotel and immediately ran to San Marcos square.  Pigeons and all, I found it breathtaking.  I was so excited to have successfully made it to Venice by myself, a bit jet lagged, and completely in love with the beauty of the square.  I woke up at dawn the two days I was there to walk through the squares and streets with hardly anyone around.  I loved watching the city wake up.  Though Venice is quite touristy, I found it hard to resist its charms; the canals, pale pink houses, store-front wine bars, cobblestone streets, and gothic architecture.  I’m so grateful I was able to visit this floating city and I hope to be back soon.
